Your yearly maintenance bill depends on the equipment you own: a heat pump, a gas furnace, a roof package unit, a mini split and a swamp cooler each need different work. Each company sets its own price, and Climate Pros Tucson doesn’t set any. Here’s what moves the total and how to make quotes comparable.

What does one visit include?

It varies by company, which is why two quotes can differ. Ask for the checklist in writing. Typical items are filter check, coil inspection, refrigerant charge check, electrical test and drain line check. For the AC visit line by line, and how a coupon visit falls short, see AC tune-up cost in Tucson.

What does TEP list for tune-ups?

As listed by TEP in October 2026, TEP’s Efficient Home Program offers up to $160 total for an AC tune-up: $80 for a refrigerant charge repair, $40 for indoor coil cleaning and $40 for outdoor coil cleaning. It runs through participating contractors and conditions apply. Ask whether the pro takes part and which items qualify. See the TEP rebate guide.

What changes the price?

  • System type: a split system, package unit, heat pump or mini split each has different parts to service.
  • Access: a roof package unit takes roof access, which some companies price in.
  • Condition: a dust-packed coil takes more work. Tucson’s dust storms, which come with the June 15 to September 30 monsoon, can load coils.
  • Evaporative coolers: Tucson Water says hard water builds calcium deposits in evaporative coolers and advises changing pads regularly and adding an in-line filter.
  • Plan or one-time visit: see the maintenance plan guide.

Is a plan worth it?

Compare what the plan includes, what it excludes and whether it covers parts. A plan that only reserves a visit is not a repair discount. Get terms in writing.

When should you schedule it?

Cooling before the heat peaks, heating before winter. A heat pump does both jobs, so one pro can check it in each season. Tucson averages about 68 days a year at 100F or higher, so a spring check beats a July breakdown. Read the pre-summer tune-up checklist and the maintenance schedule.

What should you ask each pro?

  1. What is the full checklist?
  2. What is the price before work starts?
  3. Do you take part in TEP’s Efficient Home Program?
  4. What happens if you find a problem: who approves the repair?
  5. Is the contractor licensed with the ROC? Check at roc.az.gov.
